Background
BISCOT was founded by a group of artists to organise the first multi-work, award-giving show in Edinburgh in 2006. The 14th show was held in 2019, and the botanical art scene has expanded enormously since those early days. Botanical artists now come from many more countries in the world, the study of botanical art, both on-site and virtually, is greater than ever, and there are many more exhibitions to promote this form of art.
BISCOT offers artists a challenge to work to a theme and produce a group of pictures of the same standard. The judges are experienced and always helpful. The Medal achieved can be a great boost to a career. The exhibition is held at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, the home of renowned botanical illustration teaching, and in the context of scientific and horticultural excellence where peer review also involves the public.
Sales of cards and prints are encouraged. Participating artists always enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere of BISCOT, which has an influence beyond its size. Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with access to beautiful Scottish landscapes.
